Ultrasound / sonography

Uses sound waves to image organs, blood flow, or (in pregnancy) a developing baby — safe and radiation-free.

When this is typically needed

  • Pregnancy monitoring
  • Abdominal or pelvic symptoms needing evaluation
  • Doctor-ordered imaging for a specific organ

What it involves

A probe is moved over the skin with a small amount of gel; painless and typically takes 20-30 minutes.

What to expect

Many findings are visible and discussed in real time; a formal report follows shortly after.
