Nerve conduction study (NCV)
A test that measures how fast electrical signals travel through nerves, used to diagnose nerve damage.
When this is typically needed
- Numbness or tingling in hands/feet
- Unexplained muscle weakness
- Suspected nerve compression (e.g. carpal tunnel)
What it involves
Small electrodes deliver mild electrical pulses along the nerve while conduction speed is measured — brief discomfort, no lasting effects.
What to expect
Results are typically available the same day and help pinpoint the location and severity of nerve involvement.
